The National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term

The NEC of the party took the decision on Tuesday night during its meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Sources, however said the decision does not mean an automatic ticket for Buhari.

It was gathered that the party would still conduct a presidential primary to be fair to other potential candidates.

The NEC position follows a similar decision by the APC governors’ forum. The governors had earlier endorsed the President.

Buhari has not yet said whether he intends to seek re-election.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, political parties must select their candidates for the 2019 presidential election between August 18 and October 7 2018.

The presidential and legislative elections are scheduled to take place on February 16, 2019.
