2019: Akala, Folarin Defection Can’t Stop PDP From Winning Oyo
Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rasidi Ladoja, has derided the planned rally by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to formally welcome some bigwigs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its fold.
He described the formalisation as insignificant and cannot weaken the strength of the PDP in the 2019 general elections.
Ladoja stated this on Friday while chatting with journalists in his Bodija residence, stressing that politicians constitute only five per cent of the voting population in the state and that it was the people that would determine which party governs them beyond 2019.
He said: “All politicians are not more than five per cent of the voting population. One person moving from one party to the other has nothing to do with electoral success. It is the voting population that matters.
“The larger population is still solidly behind us, and so the defection is not going to affect our fortune in PDP. Akala has been in the APC since two years now, after he left Labour Party (LP).
"So, I think it is now they think that they celebrate him and others because election is coming.
“Teslim Folarin is there with them, but I don’t know how many people he has been able to carry away.
"Even though he contested the last election, he is welcome to contest another election again.
"Ayodele is a very good technocrat, but I just hope they would play the game according to the rules.
“But the fact is that by their leaving, instead of scoring 75 per cent, we would score 65 per cent and that is still a pass mark.”
