Five people have been reportedly killed during a stampede at the 37,000 capacity Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.

Supporters of the president were at the stadium to witness his reelection rally in Taraba State.

Witnesses said the facility was overcrowded by APC supporters and party members who thronged to the stadium for the rally.

The stampede happened as President Buhari was entering the stadium and the party’s supporters, who were locked outside, were trying to catch a glimpse of the President. 

The remains of the five persons that lost their lives have been deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital in Jalingo.

Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Dorcas Philemon, told journalists that five corpses were brought to the hospital.

“Five corpses believed to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress were brought to the hospital and deposited at the morgue,” she said.

Buhari during the rally promised to link Taraba State with Rail lines through Makurdi in Benue State which would also be extended to Yola in Adamawa State to boost economic activities.
