2018 W/Cup Qualifier: Eguavoen Sees BIG "Hole" In Eagles Defense
Austin Eguavoen is impressed with the crop of players invited by coach Gernot Rohr to the Super Eagles for two World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
Nigeria host Cameroon in Uyo on September 1 before playing away in Yaoundé three days later in the return leg.
Rohr on Tuesday made official a list of 23 players for the double-header against familiar foe Cameroon, and Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles coach, is pleased.
“I am impressed with the list and I think this should be about the best we can proud of now,” Eguavoen told Complete Sports.
“I am also glad that the likes of (John Obi) Mikel, (Odion) Ighalo, (Victor) Moses and others are back because many believed that it was because they were not in Uyo that was why South Africa beat Nigeria. But now they are back and we expect nothing short of victory.
However, there is a BIG but and it resides in the Eagles defense.
“I want the coaches to work on the defence line, the defenders must know that they have a lot of work to do and there must be communication from time to time so that they can guard against unnecessary goals.
"Rohr is on the right track and we just have to support him because I will be glad like other Nigerians to see our Super Eagles at the World Cup.”
