2018 WCQ: See Super Eagles Line Up Against Zambia
The Super Eagles were quite formidable against Cameroon even though one or two weak links were noticeable in that double-header.
In this light, no one expects wholesale changes to the complexion of the team that will face Zambia on Saturday.
It is however not clear if Coach Gernot Rohr will choose form over experience.
Eyebrows are particularly raised on the Eagles’ left side of defense being manned by ‘aging’ Elderson Echiejile.
That said, Bounce Sports predicts the likely starting XI for the Eagles.
It is again expected that China-based Odion Ighalo will lead the Super Eagles attack as he can match the physicality of the Zambian defenders.
He rightly justified been picked ahead to Kelechi Iheanacho last term.
The two Moses; Victor and Simon are also expected to keep their starting roles as they look to create pathways in the Red Sea defense of the Zambians.
While it is a straight fight in goal between Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi, the former maybe asked to continue in the role though the four goals conceded in the WAFU Cup final against Ghana puts a stain on his credentials.
The Oyinbowall - central defense partnership of Leon Balogun and Troost Ekong will stand firm while Shehu Adullahi remains the preferred right back.
Ola Aina has done well in the Eagles training and he is a candidate for the left back position, it is expected he starts or comes in for Echijeile at some point.
Captain Mikel Obi will keep his usual free role and the duo of Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi will retain their roles as the team's engine.
