FC Ifeanyi Ubah shot stopper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa is hopeful he can retain his place in the starting lineup for the Super Eagles as they face Zambia in Saturday’s crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Ezenwa rose to the occasion in the double header against Cameroon last month in Uyo and Yaoundé and despite the return of Daniel Akpeyi and invitation for Dele Ajiboye, he believes he has what it takes to stop the Zambians.

“I hope to keep my place, but whoever gets the chance will be supported.

“I’m glad he’s back.” Ezenwa quipped when asked his take on the return of South Africa-based Akpeyi.

Ezenwa’s last outing in the colours of Nigeria was at the WAFU Cup of Nations final against hosts- Ghana- the Black Stars thrashed the Super Eagles 4-1.

Despite the nightmare final clash, Ezenwa was still voted at the Best Goalkeeper for the tournament having kept four clean sheets in the run to the final.
