Olaseni allegedly committed the crime on May 21 at the victim's house. The girl’s father, Adepoju Akinyemi, reported the matter at Sango Ota Police Division after he came back and found his daughter in a bad condition.

The District Police Officer, Akinsola Ogunwale, led detectives to the suspect’s house in the same estate to effect his arrest. Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the girl.

He said he was close to the family of the victim since they both lived in the same estate. Olaseni said on the fateful day, he intruded into the girl’s father’s house and met her alone. He dragged her from the living room to her’ father’s room and defiled her on the man’s bed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the case file to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.

The CP, who decried the careless attitude of some parents towards their children, appealed to members of the public to take their children’s welfare serious “so as not to make them easy prey in the hands of devilish people”.
