Two men suspected to be armed robbers have died during a gun exchange with the men of the Ogun state police command in Ijebu Ode area.

The incident followed an intelligence report received by the police Command that a robbery gang from Onitsha had arrived the GRA location in Ijebu-Ode to terrorize and cause unrest in the town.

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) were deployed to the GRA to arrest the suspected robbers.

On sighting the Policemen, the robbers shot into the air and at the police and later engaged them in a gun battle which lasted for about 30 minutes.

During the gun battle, two of the robbers were shot dead while the other two escaped with bullet wounds.

Recovered from them were one Ak47 riffle with Breach No- 804403, two pump action guns with defaced breach numbers, 57 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 32 rounds of live cartridges, charms and an unregistered Toyota Previa bus used for their operation.

The police has launched a man hunt for the escaped members of the gang while hospitals as well as traditional healers have been notified to alert the Police if anybody with gunshot injury visits them for treatment.
