2 Nigerians Arrested For Forcing Young Girls Into 'Ashawo' Work
Police officers in Austria have arrested a Nigerian man and woman who are trying to force other young girls to work as Ashawos.
Police spokesman, Johann Baumschlager said in Vienna that they are part of a criminal organization involved in human trafficking.
He said they forced at least 10 young Nigerian women into the prostitution by asking them to swear by a local deity.
Baumschlager said the victims were repeatedly threatened with juju spells and told they each owed about 24 million Naira for their transportation to Europe.
In the meantime, the male suspect is cooperating with police, he said, but the woman has denied the allegations.
