Their days of wallowing within the confines of Gombe Central Prison are over.

This is thanks to the kind gesture of an All Progressive Congress, APC chieftain in Gombe, Muhammad Yahaya.

He secured the release of 19 inmates by the paying their fines and meeting other requirements while on a humanitarian visit to the facility

According to Yahaya, this is to enable them rejoin their families and have a second shot at freedom.

“There were almost all youths whom we think can be of assistance to the society, so we are giving them freedom to make themselves useful to the society and contribute their quota in nation building.”

Yahaya, who was the APC gubernatorial candidate in 2015 general election, also donated prayer mats and a public address system to the prison yard Mosque.

He asked the freed inmates to right their wrongs and adhere to the rule of law.

The Deputy Comptroller of Gombe Central Prison, Ibrahim Gide, appreciated the gesture and employed other influential personalities in the state to do same.

“I would like to advise the affluent in this state to emulate this kind of humanitarian feelings with a view to decongesting prisons with victims of mild civil cases,” he said.
