1 Killed, 3 Injured In Cross River/Ebonyi Boundary Dispute
There has been a protracted boundary dispute between the people of Ekoli-Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area and Ibor in Cross River State over a palm plantation.
It resurfaced recently heightening tension in the area.
One person has now been murdered in a fresh boundary dispute between Ekoli-Edda people in Afikpo South Local government area and the people of Ibor of Cross River State.
It was gathered that the recent clash claimed the life of a 30-year-old man, Mmecheta Ibem a native of Enwere Ekoli-Edda while three other persons, Egwuagha Ogbu, Kelechi Amah and Sunday Ibiam were severely injured with bullet.
Bounce News gathered that some youths from Ekoli-Edda went to a plantation jointly owned by the people of Ebonyi and Cross River communities to cut palm fronds when the Cross River warlords allegedly way laid them with guns and shot one person dead, while three escaped with bullet injuries on their body.
Sources from Ekoli-Edda said the three persons injured have been taken to a hidden place where bullets will be extracted from their bodies.
When contacted, Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah confirmed the incident and said police was investigating the matter.
ASP Odah explained that Ekoli-Edda Town Union President, Dr. Uka Tiba reported the matter to the police, that the body of the 30 year old man who was shot dead had been recovered and deposited at Joint Hospital, Ekoli.
The police spokesperson said that the command would petition AIG Zone 6 Calabar in respect of the killing because there has been a protracted dispute between the two communities over the palm plantation.
He added that the matter had been on and to find a lasting solution, the command would report to the AIG so that lasting peace would be brought to the area.
She said for now, police in Afikpo South were working hard to ensure there was no further crisis in the place.
Odah appealed to the people not to take the law into their hands by going on a reprisal attack, but rather remain peaceful and law abiding while the police investigate and restore peace.
