One person has died and two people injured following an explosion in Mubi, Adamawa state.

An improvised Explosive Device IED explosive was reported to have detonated this afternoon in Mubi, the commercial hub of Adamawa state killing one teenager and wounding two others.

According to sources, the explosion occurred at about 1:00 pm near a scrap materials gathering point along Kabang road in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa state. 

Reports say an unidentified teenager suspected of carrying the device was killed on the spot as a result of the explosion while two other teenagers in his company were severely wounded by the explosion and have been evacuated to Mubi General Hospital in very critical condition for medical attention.

Speaking to Bounce News in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy Ahmad Sajoh who is also an indigene of Mubi  described the incident as unfortunate.

He said it was not a suicide attack, but that three teenagers went scavenging and picked up some metals in their search for daily bread. They thereafter proceeded to dispose their product where the improvised explosives detonated killing one of them and seriously wounding two other teenagers.

The two were quickly rushed to  Mubi General Hospital for medical attention.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa state Command SP Abubakar Othman also confirmed the incident  and said the area is calm and the situation has been brought under control.

He called on residents of Mubi not to panic but to remain calm.

This is the third time such an incident of improvised explosives detonating is happening in the state. Two others occurred in Yola South and Gombi local government areas of the state, though no lives were lost in both incidences.
